Estimator (Electrical Construction)

 

Location: San Diego, CA

Status: Full Time.  This is an exempt position

Relevant work experience: 5+Years

Education: High School or Equivalent

Salary: Commensurate with experience

Chula Vista Electric is a local family owned Company that has been in business since 1920, with 20 million dollars in annual sales. We perform electrical construction for small to medium projects in the commercial construction industry.

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  •  Coordinate and produce accurate estimates for electrical construction projects.
  • Ability to create a scope letter which is thorough and creative.
  •  Build relationships with owners, general contractors, electrical engineers, sub contractors & suppliers
  •   Review and comprehend construction proposal requests including but not limited to drawings, specifications, state and local code requirements.
  • Attend weekly department and job site meetings with the owners, General contractors, and/or others as needed. Request quotes and direct interaction with subs and suppliers
  • Recognize and record necessary information, be able to ask questions in a public forum during job walks.
  • Work alone or with other estimators on projects in a harmonious manor to meet bid date deadlines.
  • Must able to present your proposal to our clients in a private as well as public meeting.
  • Must be able to work on the phone with clients and others in giving and taking directions
  • Lead a coordination turn over meeting with the project management staff and team players on awarded projects.
  • Request and pick-up drawings and RFP packages
  •  Perform additional assignments as directed by direct Supervisor

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCES & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

  •  5+ years as an estimator in electrical construction industry
  • Positive attitude and team player
  • Background as a electrician is a plus
  • Understand and work effectively with ConEst or (electrical estimating software)
  • Must be able to attend job walks that may take from 1-5 hours and require standing, walking, sitting, squatting, going up and down set of stairs or trench ditches.

  •  Ability to sit for prolonged periods, at a desk, plan table and efficiently operate computer, calculator, copier, fax and other business office equipment.
  •  Manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, mental alertness and good memory is necessary to ensure accurate and thorough completion of work activities.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have the ability to look at electrical gear, fixtures, and other electrical appurtenance and understand their importance in developing a estimate.
  •  Ability to use Microsoft Outlook for emails and calendaring events.
  •  Must able to take notes and incorporate important aspects into bid proposals
  • Must be able to read plans and specifications, electrical code books, read and comprehend projects and specifications
  • Must be proficient in math and be able to calculate percentage,  yardage, tonnage, and volume
  • Must have a valid California drivers license and good driving record and be able to drive to jobsite when necessary.
  • Produce accurate estimates for electrical construction projects assigned to them.
  •  Work alone or with other estimators on projects in a harmonious manor to meet bid date deadlines.
  • Work extended hours when needed
  •  Ability to stay focused and work without close supervision, in a team environment and independently.
  • Ability to interpret and disseminate complex information appropriate and effectively.
  • Working conditions consist of a temperature-controlled office; noise level in work environment is usually low.
